Commonwealth Avenue Mall becomes part of the Boston park system.
1894
Designed by Arthur Gilman, the 100-foot wide mall ends initially at Massachusetts Avenue (then West Chester Park). Following a design by Olmsted, it is narrowed to 85 feet in width, and angled by 20 degrees and extended to Kenmore Square in the 1890s.
